When innovative ad agency Johannes Leonardo approached us to help create a new ad campaign for the Volkswagen ID. BUZZ, we were thrilled. Through a combination of digital and print assets, we worked together to create an out of home campaign that spanned seventeen locations across LA and NYC from May 29 to June 23, 2023, letting everyone know, “The bus is back!”
Our collaboration with Johannes Leonardo began when they sought our expertise for a massive outdoor campaign via Facebook. We provided layout, pre-media, and post-production services for print, static digital, and motion digital Out of Home (OOH) displays. Our New York-based Media division took the reins to bring this campaign to life. The dedicated team included Jackie Marco, Project Manager, Print, Tom Stachula, Layout/Digital Artist, and Tony Cardinale, Project Manager, Digital.
Crafting a Unique Experience
What set this campaign apart was the clever use of digital boards, especially on NY's 42nd Street & 8th. By strategically deploying multiple screens around corners, we were able to create the illusion of the VW ID. BUZZ vehicle moving seamlessly across displays, captivating audiences with a sense of continuity and motion. Our use of multiple displays and sequenced messaging made it appear as if the boards formed one massive screen in the sky.
One of the primary challenges was maintaining consistent vehicle colors across different media platforms, where digital and printed boards coexisted. Our BE Media team expertly matched color swatch chips to the actual vehicle colors in both CMYK (printer's primaries) and RGB (digital displays). Through meticulous retouching and color correction, we ensured the brand's integrity was never compromised.
At BluEdge, we approach every project with innovation and a dedication to quality. We are humbled to have brought Johannes Leonardo's vision to life through this extraordinary campaign, showcasing not only the exciting new VW ID. BUZZ but also the power of creative and well-executed OOH advertising.
This campaign could not have come together without great teamwork. Tony Cardinale had this to say about his teammates:
"Jackie Marco’s production skills, responsiveness, and attention to detail were nothing short of amazing, while Tom Stachula’s skillset and mastery at the controls were, simply, icing on the cake! Navigating the tightest of deadlines with no margin for error, assets were delivered on schedule, and without incident …”
