Introduction
We pride ourselves on transforming spaces and creating unique, impactful visual experiences for our clients. We recently had the pleasure of working with Truehand to create custom signage for White Horse Wine and Spirits, a premier wine and liquor store in Absecon, NJ.
Truehand Society discovered BluEdge through a lucky visit to the DiBruno Bros store, where they were impressed by the distinctive signage. Intrigued by the quality and design, they did a Google search and found us through our Di Bruno case study, which ultimately resulted in a collaboration.
Scope of Work
The goal was to create a visually stunning and functional interior highlighting different store sections while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. Our team worked closely with Truehand Society to bring their vision to life.
The project was completed in two phases:
Phase 1: December 2023
White Horse Wine and Spirits wanted Phase 1 completed so it could open up to clients preparing for their New Year's Eve celebrations. Four different types of signage were created to address signage language and hierarchy:
- First tier: four-sided, hanging light boxes made from white acrylic with vinyl lettering
- Second-tier: product category signage, printed directly to plywood
- Third tier: "table-top" signage, displaying more specific product categories
- Fourth tier: miniature "table-top" signage displaying the country of origin
Phase 2: April 2024
The marquee was installed as the second phase. Due to time constraints, this could not be completed in the first phase.
Materials and Equipment Used
- Materials: Plywood, acrylic, vinyl, custom metal fabrication
- Equipment: Direct-to-print technology, routers
Our Approach
Initial Survey and Collaboration
We began by conducting a detailed site survey. We shared this with Truehand Society, who provided an inspiration packet that guided our design and installation process.
Customization
The signage needed to be customized to fit precisely with the existing shelves. This included creating wooden shelf toppers and custom metal hardware. The light boxes were made from white acrylic with black vinyl and were four-sided to provide visibility from all angles.
Two-Phase Installation
Due to the tight timeline, the project was split into two phases. The first phase involved installing the light boxes and wooden shelf toppers, ensuring they were ready for the New Year. The second phase focused on the marquee and additional signage for the grand opening in April.
Post-Installation
We provided additional metal fabrication for the store’s sit-down restaurant portion, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to client satisfaction.
The Marquee
One of the project's most challenging aspects was installing a large marquee onto an existing counter that was not part of the original design plan. This required an innovative approach to ensure a seamless fit.
To achieve the necessary precision, The Truehand and BluEdge team created a detailed paper template of the marquee. This template ensured that the marquee would fit perfectly onto the counter. We used the template during the construction phase, allowing the client to build around it. This meticulous approach ensured that when it came time to install the marquee, it fit within 0 tolerance, demonstrating our commitment to precision and craftsmanship.
Outcome
The 32,000 square-foot store now boasts stunning light boxes and custom signage that enhance the shopping experience. The wooden shelf toppers and custom metal hardware seamlessly blend with the store’s aesthetic, providing clear and attractive signage for different wine and liquor sections.
