Di Bruno Brothers – an iconic staple of downtown Philadelphia since 1939 – recently opened a new 8,000 sq. ft. location in Wayne, PA. Design firm Dylan Gardner Designs was tasked with creating the experiential graphics for the new property. The firm’s goal was to honor the Italian market legacy while also taking inspiration from old-world European food markets to create a timeless brand experience.
With 4 locations already, the idea was to combine the “best of” all of the Di Bruno Brothers stores into one experiential marketplace experience with even more “energy, expertise, and enthusiasm for all things edible.” BluEdge was brought on board to produce the experiential graphics for the space.
BluEdge and Dylan Gardner Designs began by reviewing floor plans and elevations to determine where signage would naturally go. We then went to work on selecting the perfect materials to give the store a luxurious feel while still feeling familiar to the community. Though the goal was to use high-end finishes, BluEdge still had to ensure the signage was durable enough to withstand legacy printed graphics being shifted around in future rearrangements.
Another challenge we faced was working with field conditions did not always match specifications. For example, there were no heat lamps in the original Arrosto plans. Once onsite however, we had to work around the lamps and determine a new way to display the signage. Ultimately, BluEdge’s solution was to hang the sign below the armature as, giving a distinct feel to the area.
