A Snow Globe Symphony – Crafting Enchantment in Dior's Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Display

Introduction

In the heart of Saks Fifth Avenue's holiday transformation, Dior's 'Carousel of Dreams' unravels a captivating narrative that spans decades of partnership. Among the 24 themed windows adorning the iconic Fifth Avenue store, Window #18 emerges as a mesmerizing showcase of elegance and creativity. This window, featuring a starry formation of snow globes, becomes a focal point, captivating onlookers and transporting them into a world of enchantment.

The Beginning

As the vision for the 2023 holiday season began to take shape, the Dior team set out to establish a team of vendors that would bring their dreamy vision to life – and BluEdge was honored to be on that list. Our relationship with the luxury fashion house took off after they visited our cutting-edge 60,000 sq. ft. facility in Carlstadt, New Jersey. Recognizing BluEdge's well-rounded expertise in bringing experiential concepts into the real world, Dior entrusted us with several windows, including Window #18…

Fabricating Window #18 – Snow Globes Dior Star

Window #18 served as one of Dior’s prized “center six”. This captivating display featured a starry formation of snow globes, ranging in diameter from 6 to 24 inches. These elongated domes, resembling a symphony of elegance, provided a spellbinding backdrop for the holiday narrative.

Each snow globe within Window #18 showcased a meticulously crafted "Ms. Dior Puppet," gracefully holding an iconic Christian Dior handbag within a glittering field of snow. BluEdge employed advanced resin 3D printing techniques and a precise spray-painting process to breathe life into these miniature figures, ensuring each detail captured the essence of Dior's timeless elegance.

A specially formulated “snow” made of faux snow and fine & coarse glitter added to the enchantment. Special care was taken to make sure each globe's snow pitch was set up so that they looked visually stunning even to spectators standing at street level. While appearing round to spectators, the elongated dome shape of the globes facilitated the installation process, allowing for the effective placement of figures, snow, and wiring. Finally, each globe was treated with an anti-static formula to ensure a clear view of the scene throughout the duration of the display.

The central globe, with its unique design, portrayed the iconic New York City landmark – the Statue of Liberty. In a creative twist, Lady Liberty proudly held a Christian Dior handbag rather than her traditional tablet. The challenge of this featured globe lay in creating a swirling, organic snowfall within that remained consistent throughout the display's duration. Because of this, creative engineering had to be used to ensure that the Statue of Liberty within the central globe seamlessly integrated into the airflow, preventing snow accumulation on specific parts.

To elevate the visual experience further, a seamless LED screen, measuring 98 inches wide by 100 inches tall with a 1.8-pixel pitch, was created in collaboration with partners TCI. This engineering marvel, integrated strategically into the window design, included a moving floor for maintenance access to three layers. The back panel, adorned with micro-LED lights, contributed to the illusion of twinkling stars in the night sky, enhancing the overall enchantment of the display.

Conclusion

Window #18 serves as a testament to the creative engineering, meticulous craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit behind the Dior Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Window Display. As part of the larger 'Carousel of Dreams' experience, this window invites viewers to immerse themselves in a winter wonderland of elegance and sophistication.
